New Year, New Look, New You!

New Year, New Look, New You!

So it’s a New Year and a new decade, how about a New Look! In the theme of what happens every beginning of the year for most of us is a chance to have a fresh or new start in a lot of areas. Things that we really want to bring about. Our resolution or new vision or intentions for what we want to incorporate into our life & maybe some new “good” habits! It’s never too late to start something new!  Make sure you do something fun that you’ll want to stick with and looking good makes us FEEL good!

So as your beauty advisor I have a recommendation. How about a new look to get you through ‘til Spring? It’ll make it more fun to get up & get ready for your day in the mornings when it’s cold & maybe not so sun-shiny outside! When is the last time you made a change in your appearance? It is life changing…in a good way!

It’s time for a new haircut or hair color to liven up winter skin that isn’t sun kissed anymore. Brunette shades are the new Blonde! And there are so many shades of brunette to be! And if you don’t think so…come visit me or your trusted stylist. Deep chocolate brown or warm auburn brown or even light golden brown if you’ve always been blonde or even a cool dark brown can be striking! You can still have highlights of blonde or caramel or light brown mixed in. So, so many possibilities to choose from. I am a big fan of more than one color in the hair.

And how about kicking up the fun with a sassy new cut! There’s not just one style anymore that’s hip to be wearing. Anything from short to long can be spiced up to feel new! Check out fashion magazines you can get a clue for something different. If you are drawn to a look, think about how you could try something similar or exact. Whatever you want to try. But get out of your same old box & have some fun with it. Only be as daring as you wish, but try something as simple as cutting fringy or blunt bangs or redirecting the layers in your hair or taking off a couple inches will get you noticed by everyone.

And when it comes to your skin & makeup…Listen up!  Start with good skincare. A must for winter.

Moisturize – More important than ever—moisturize! Changes in temperatures (inside with the heater to outside where it’s freezing, then back to your car where you turn the heater on, etc) can dry your skin out fast.

Exfoliate – Yes, in the winter more than ever. You need to slough off dead skin cells to reveal smoother skin underneath. All that dry heat can give you flakes that you can’t even see. But those flakes can make your makeup appear blotchy. A face primer with retexturing properties like glycolic or fruit acid to slough dead skin cells & keep skin smooth. Bonus when it has SPF it protects that new skin that emerges. I have a great TAMI SCOTT Primer with SPF 15 does both jobs of resurface & protect. My Liquid to Powder Mineral Foundation also has SPF15. I have you covered with protection & coverage without feeling heavy.  Everyone who uses these two products, can’t live without them once they use them.

Protect- You need SPF in the winter also. Just because it’s cold doesn’t mean you can’t get sun exposure.  Especially when there’s snow on the ground. Light reflects off it & bounces up & can give you a more intense sun exposure or a sunburn, yes a sunburn if you are out too long. So if your foundation doesn’t have an SPF you need one under it.

Color- For winter makeup color, think rich! Jewel tones and luxurious browns are great for winter because they make up for the color you don’t usually have when the weather turns cold.

For cheeks, mauves and berries for Blondes and Brunettes. Redheads and those with yellow undertones may want to consider a coral-pink instead of a berry tone.

For eyes, use shadow colors like golden or chocolate brown, berry or plum. Grays are good, as well, for a smoky eye effect. I have a great assortment of colors in my TAMI SCOTT line that have these tones but still look really natural when you wear them.

For lips, use more berries and plums or if you like something more natural, just switch out the lip liner you use to a more plum or berry. Adding this color to your lips automatically adds more colors to your cheeks and sparkle to your eyes. Added bonus: they make your teeth look whiter because they’re blue-based. As with the blush, redheads and those with yellow undertones may want to try a coral-pink lipstick instead.

Shimmer- Add a little shimmer instead of bronzer to give illusion of glowing skin. Not too much bronzer if you are going to use it…it really shows up on paler skin in the winter & can look orangey like a fake tan & not in a good way. I have a few different skin perfecting powders as I like to call them.. in my TAMI SCOTT MAKEUP line. Different tones for different skin tones. Whether you have pink (cool) undertone to your skin or more warm or olive toned, everybody requires a different shimmer powder to enhance their winter skin.
